Beef Paprik

Assalamualaikum and Hello everyone!

It's been a long time since I have shared anything in here. Hope everyone is well and enjoying cooking as I do. Today, for a change I'd like to share this recipe called Paprik Daging (Beef Paprik). It is a Thai dish, very commonly found in Thai-themed restaurants all over the city.

Originally the dish is called Pad Prik in Thailand and it is usually served with white rice (Nasi). It contains various proteins (beef, chicken or seafood) and vegetables, saute with Thai Red Curry Paste and doesn't require any coconut milk.

The Malaysian version doesn't have much spices in it but is more simple and quick to prepare. It has the basic elements of Thai cooking - spicy, sweet and sour, all in one dish.

You'll need:

300gm of topside beef, sliced thinly across the grains
Assorted vegetables of your choice. I used young corn, capsicum, carrots, leek, tomatoes, cauliflower, some chilly padi for extra heat.

2 cloves of garlic - chopped
1 inch of ginger - chopped
2 tablespoons of chilly paste

Oil to saute

Sauce
2 tablespoons tomato sauce/puree
2 tablespoons Thai chilly sauce
1 tablespoon Oyster sauce
1 tablespoon sweet soya sauce
1 tablespoon light soya sauce
( you may adjust the amount according to how you like)
Stir sauce ingredients well.

2 stalks of lemon grass - bruised
4 stalks of kefir lime leaves crushed

Some hot water (if you like some gravy)

What to do.
Saute the garlic and ginger till fragrant, add chilly paste. Stir till oil separates.
Add the beef slices and stir till it changes colour.

Add sauce, lemon grass and lime leaves. Add water. Stir and allow to simmer gently.
Lastly add vegetables and allow to cook till soften.

Serve with hot white rice.
