SIMPLE HOTDOG BUNS

Decided to bake something for Adik. I know he likes sausages, frankfurters and hotdogs. I've been very careful not to give him too much of these knowing how much preservatives are in them. He's not been having any for the last 3 weeks...so as a treat, decided to try make some sausage buns for him.

I found a nice easy sweet dough recipe which gave us such soft buns and this recipe will definitely be for keeps! I've changed some of the measurements as the original recipe makes such a huge batch. At the same time, so as not to make Abang sad, I used half of the dough to make Cinnamon Rolls. So everyone's happy! Yippee!

Sweet Dough
2 cups of bread flour
1 cup of all-purpose flour
200ml warm water
5 tablespoons castor sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
50gm butter
2 teaspoons instant yeast (Mauripan)
3 tablespoons powdered milk
1 egg (beaten)

some sausages/frankfurters. I cut the sausages into half.

If you're using a breadmaker, place the ingredients according to manufacturer's instructions.

If by hand:
Place flour, milk, salt, sugar and yeast in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and pour the liquids inside. Gently fold in the dry ingredients into the liquids and start kneading to form a soft dough. Continue kneading till the dough doesn't stick to the sides of the bowl. Transfer it to a greased bowl, make sure it's big enough to hold the dough when it rises. Cover it with a plastic cling wrap and place it in a warm place till double the size - about 1 hour.

When ready, knock down the dough to remove excess air. Continue to knead a bit more and divide the dough into 12 small balls.

Flatten a ball, place the sausage inside. You can leave it this way if you want. If you're more adventurous, you can slit the dough through the sausage, making sure not to detach the base of the dough and twist the pieces forward to get a caterpillar shape.

Place on a greased baking sheet and leave to rise for another 30-45mins. Meatime, preheat oven to 190deg cel.

Brush the buns with beaten egg, sprinkle some sesame seed and dried herbs if you wish.

Bake for about 20-25mins till buns are golden.

Enjoy :)
