Apple Tarts (Galette)

I love Apple Pies and Tarts. I've been wanting to try making one, but my family is not a fan of this. So I thought let's make something small for myself and so I did. I found this simple recipe for Apple Tarts and made it. It has a nice aroma and a delicate crunch to it. What's important is that it's easy to make and I know what I can do with extra apples next time :)

I only made a few of these, and kept the rest of the filling in an air-tight container for next time. I've used the remaining pastries for Chocolate Puffs Master S and Potato Curry Puffs for Mr Hubby instead. Will share the other recipes soon :)

APPLE TARTS

Makes about 12 pieces.

Ready made frozen puff pastries cut in squares.( I used Kawan Brand and they're ready-cut in squares.)

6 medium apples cored and sliced thinly. (I used Granny Smith and each tart uses about half of an apple)
- Toss sliced apples with 2 tablespoons of castor sugar and half teaspoon of cinnamon (optional). Put aside.

Filling
1/4 cup of sugar
3 tablespoons ( about 42gm) of butter - soft
1 large egg
1/2 cup of almond meal
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour
- with a handmixer, cream butter and sugar till pale. Add egg and vanilla. Fold in the almond meal and a.p. flour.

Assemble Tarts
- On each pastry, spread a thin layer of filling at the base, leaving a narrow border around the pastry. Lay on prepared baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 15mins.

- Meantime, preheat oven to 205deg.

- Remove pastry from the fridge. Arrange apple slices on pastry, overlapping each other and bake for about 15-20 mins till pastry is golden and flaky as well as the apples soft.

- Remove from oven and place on a wire rack. Lightly sift icing sugar on the tarts. Switch on the grill (upper heat). Move the oven rack to the upper oven and place the tray of pastry under the grill to carmelize the apples. Do not leave tray for too long and remove when nice and golden.

Serve with whipped cream or a dusting of icing sugar.
